Egg Baskets & Self Care
Friends,
Last week I had an epiphany.
I had one of those Sundays that just expanded out in front of me. No set agenda, just time to take care of me, the animals, the household. You know, all those little things that you put aside for “later.”
Last Sunday, “later” was “now”, and I found myself washing eggs and musing about the correlation between the egg baskets and my equilibrium.
Here on the farm, we have two egg baskets: one “CLEAN”, and one “DIRTY.” The newly collected eggs go in the “dirty” basket until we hand wash them and then they go next to the stove in the “clean” basket, ready to be cooked and eaten. Our eggs, both dirty and clean, live on the counter, in true farmhouse fashion.
An accumulation of over two dozen eggs that I meticulously and meditatively washed and moved over into the “clean” basket. I realized that washing eggs, for me, was an act of self care. I took the time that I didn’t have all week to finish the task, to clean up, to ready things for the next phase. What a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment from such a small endeavor.
It reminded me of a quote from Mother Theresa that says, “Small things done with great love will change the world."
Washing eggs. Such a small thing. Such a big difference.
I bet that whoever said not to put all of your eggs in one basket never had to wash his own by hand.
Wishing you a wonderful week of small things done with great love that bring you peace and contentment.
With so much love,
Kari
