Do Things That Scare You

This week I did something really scary. Twice.

My daughter Lotus, and her horse, Sterling, just returned from a week together at horse camp. This is their third time attending, but I had had a professional transport the horses in the past. I always drove the girls. That was before I had a farm, a pick-up truck, and such a DIY, can-do partner. Also, the transport guy retired. ;)

Ten days ago, I realized that camp was starting imminently and I was out of transport options. So we borrowed the trailer from the stable where the big horses live, and we decided to do it ourselves.

This has been an ongoing theme since acquiring the farm.

Whether it be the nature of farm ownership, COVID shortages of supply chains and contractors, lack of funds, or a combination of all three, my learning and skillset trajectory has been exponential in the past 15 months.

I LOVE IT!

And it can be terrifying at first.

Trailering a horse is a huge responsibility. So much can go wrong. Not only with the mechanics of the connection, but all the lunatics on the road who don't understand that it takes you much longer to stop your vehicle when you are towing 3500 lbs.

It was very nerve-wracking. So I brought my patience and muscle, i.e., Eric, to help with the heavy lifting (and driving).

I was the lookout.

And the worrier.

And the warrior. A warrior because I was scared and went ahead and did it anyway.

A warrior because I asked for help, something that took me years to learn.

And guess what?

We did it!

Furthermore, 6 days later, we went back, trailer in tow, and brought them home.

It wasn't as scary the second time.

Next time, I may even drive.

Now we have "horse trailer" on our farm wish list.

I know there are solo trips in my future.

Bring It On!

What scares you? What do you want to do, try, learn, or experience that seems intimidating right now?

How can you take a baby step in that direction?

Join me this week for practices that will help you with the places that scare you.

YOU GOT THIS!

with so much love,

Kari
