Leaps and Bounds

Friends,

In this edition, we’re exploring the concept of time, the significance of leap years, and how we can make the most of our extra day.

The Justice of Time

My teacher, Nevine Michaan, introduced me to the idea that time is a form of justice. Regardless of our backgrounds or circumstances, each of us is granted the same 24 hours a day. This equal distribution of time fosters a sense of universal fairness and provides a consistent measure to navigate our lives. It’s a reminder of the importance and impact of our individual choices and priorities in maximizing the finite hours of each day.

This year, we got an extra 24 of them.

The History of Leap Years

Leap years have been a part of our timekeeping since the time of Julius Caesar and the introduction of the Julian calendar in 45 BCE. Our modern Gregorian calendar further refines this accuracy and helps maintain temporal alignment.

Making the Most of an Extra Day

Every four years, we are gifted an extra day, February 29th. This day offers a momentary disruption to our routine, a reconciliation between our human timekeeping and the celestial movements that shape our existence. It’s a unique opportunity for individuals to spend an extra day dreaming, relaxing, or engaging in personal pursuits.

On this bonus day, I had the pleasure of teaching a fun Hanumanasana class. We mimicked the monkey deity who leaped across the ocean to show his love and devotion to Lord Rama. I also spent time in nature with my dogs and connected with friends and family over the phone. It was a wonderful way to slow down, connect, and reflect before the upcoming busy months. The BOUNDS post LEAP if you will.

Join Me

I invite you to join me in the coming months for a series of exciting events. I have many in-person as well as virtual events lined up through May. Check out the schedule in my email newsletter or on my website under Workshops and Trainings!

As we move forward, let’s remember the lessons of this leap year and continue to make every moment count. I hope that February 29th and your extra 24 hours offered you a glimpse into the infinite possibilities that time, when treated as a gift, can unfold.

With so much love,

Kari
